Electrical Engineer I Electric Department
The City of Dover is currently looking for a motivated individual for the position of Electrical Engineer I in the Electric Department. The essential function of the position is to perform electrical engineering and technical work for the City of Dover’s electric utility system. The selected candidate will work on transmission and distribution systems and substations as well as new service extensions, fuse coordination and renewable interconnections.
Job Responsibilities • Assist and/or prepare diagrams, tracings, and schematics for power transmission and distribution systems • Prepare drawings of electric work to be performed or changes to be made to existing electrical gear • Set up and maintain records of field surveys, drawings and prints • Participate in transmission and distribution line designs and substation designs and modifications • Calculate proper conductor type and size, transformer size, and proper application of equipment • Specify relay settings, fuse sizes, and reclosers for proper coordination • Evaluate/deny/approve renewable energy installation applications • Investigate problems relating to electrical control equipment and recommend solutions • May lead staff on specific projects • Gather and maintain data/information and prepare routine and special reports, as well as coordinate staff meetings and attend in-service training and technical or professional classes

Required Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering • Bachelor’s degree in a closely related field may be acceptable • Valid driver’s license • Must obtain Fundamentals of Engineering certification within two (2) years of employment

The 40 members of the Electric Department strive to providing service to approximately 25,000 electric customers across a 74 square mile service area. We supply large customers such as the US Air Force, manufacturing and commercial entities as well as our residential services in and around the historic downtown area of Dover.
