The specialist serves as the primary architect of power plant automation systems. This includes design, analysis and optimization of process control functions and algorithms used by DCS systems for the control of power generation facilities. Position requires knowledge of Foxboro and GE control systems.
Job Responsibilities
With engineering support, provide plant wide leadership on all DCS projects; From planning to deployment.
Develop the process control logic and algorithms required by DCS for plant automation and data acquisition.
Implement DCS projects, troubleshoot control systems and perform other technical DCS-related activities as required.
Translate power plant operational procedures into DCS analyze data acquired from remotely accessed field instrumentation. Build software tools to present and share data among engineering and operations personnel.
Manages DCS projects within approved budgets.
Manage contracts, relationships and equipment purchases with DCS vendors.
Education
Completion of an appropriate Apprenticeship program or equivalent.
Experience
The DCS specialist position requires a minimum of 5 years at journeyman status or equivalent in a power plant, three of which involved direct DCS experience maintaining, and upgrading DCS systems. Additional, control room operations experience may be required at the plant manager's discretion.
Additional Information
The position requires a detailed understanding of the operations and engineering of all systems associated with a fossil fuel power plant. This included, but is not limited to: Water and steam systems, turbines and generators, electrical systems, fuel handling and fire/burning controls. Basic
