Plans, coordinates and performs engineering work, including reviewing various land development submittals, conducting engineering feasibility studies, performing design work for construction projects and environmental/conservation programs; performs professional level engineering planning, design and construction oversight for a variety of projects.
Construction Engineer Associate:
The Engineering Associate in Construction Management must be experienced in off-site and on-site construction, construction management, scheduling, budgeting, construction inspection activities, project closeout and various construction trades/equipment/materials. The position will work under the direction of the Engineering and Construction Services Division Manager, but will be required to work independently on construction projects and various engineering related tasks.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following)
Reviews, interprets and applies Federal, State and Local laws and regulations; determines impact to City functions and discusses impact on issues.
Conducts feasibility and cost studies; develops engineering solutions to problems; recommends alternative approaches, including the use of contract services and the incorporation of new methods and materials.
Participates in writing requests for proposal and contract specifications for design and construction administration services; participates in the selection of engineering consultants, contractors and administers professional services agreements.
Maintains liaison with various utility, governmental agency and City departmental staff; ensures that building codes and applicable permit conditions are met in assigned projects.
Reviews and negotiates requests for payment and change orders; tracks and documents project costs.
Maintains accurate records and prepares a variety of special reports letters, meeting minutes and memorandums.
Performs special assignments as requested, to include researching and preparing reports and project documents, developing and implementing programs, and administering state and federal grants.
Provides information, advice, feedback or assistance to others within the division to refine work outputs or resolve problems.
Confers with upper management to keep them informed on key issues and progress toward objectives and to gain their support and approval; makes recommendations to assist management in making needed improvements.
Construction Management
Works in both field and office settings
Reviews and analyzes construction design drawings and project specifications to understand and coordinate construction field work
Performs professional level engineering, cost analysis, project planning, budgeting, report writing, and construction oversight for a variety of construction project types
Manage and coordinate off-site and on-site construction projects with emphasis in construction project oversight, reviewing change orders, pay application reviews, processing pay applications and reviewing material submittals
Engineering Design
Confers with City staff regarding physical facility project requirements, including space criteria, cost estimates and related matters.
Prepares project designs, cost estimates, specifications and project schedules for projects including roads, traffic signals, drainage facilities, flood control channels, sewers and water systems, parks and public buildings.
Administers contracts and confers with engineering consultants, architects and construction contractors; schedules projects; provides technical oversight, inspects work in progress and ensures that all work complies with contract specifications and applicable codes and standards.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university with major course work in civil engineering or a related field.
Two or more years of progressively complex and responsible related work experience to gain sufficient knowledge and familiarity with theories and principals for application to practical problems and solutions.
Licenses and Certifications:
Must possess a valid state driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory motor vehicle record
Possession of State of Nevada Registered Engineer Certificate. If licensed in another state, registration in the State of Nevada within one year of hire/reclassification

Additional Salary Information: •4-day, 36-hour workweek, Monday-Thursday, 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
