PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manages the daily maintenance efforts of the Train Management & Control (TMAC) system hardware and software. Manages the installation of new software as releases are made available and ensure testing against field apparatus. Maintains servers and hardware used by clients, remotely accesses, and takes corrective action from home-based maintenance workstations. Tracks anomalies as they are discovered or reported and facilitates corrective action with TMAC vendor.
Provides guidance for end-users in the use of the TMAC system. Develops training syllabus and class materials for formal classroom training of new users as part of the current train and power dispatching class.
Manages TMAC archives and system backup. Ensures that the system provides data used for management reporting purposes, and for the maintenance of FRA-mandated reports and record-keeping covering activities related to the movement of trains.
Maintains overview display systems utilized by train and power dispatchers to depict the entire district under their control, as well as similar infrastructure at NJ TRANSIT headquarters. Manages the daily maintenance procedures needed to maintain this critical ancillary TMAC system insuring maximum system availability.
Manages the daily activities of system engineers engaged in TMAC system maintenance. Provides assistance and support to the Director in systems and ROC building services and acts on their behalf when absent.
Supports remote TMAC system users at NJ TRANSIT headquarters (VP/GM Rail), foreign railroads for scheduled connections, etc.
Supports corporate network connection and provides for uninterrupted flow of data between the TMAC system and other corporate systems in need of real-time TMAC data

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQUIRED:
Baccalaureate Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related field, and five (5) years of control systems maintenance and field experience or Associate Degree or equivalent certification in Electronics, Computer Science, Networking or related field with five (5) years experience in railroad control systems maintenance and field experience.
At least 3 years of practical experience administrating and supporting NJ TRANSIT’s Train Management and Control (TMAC) system and Positive Train Control (PTC) systems is mandatory.
A strong background in Windows platform desktop computers and server operating systems is required. Knowledge of NJ TRANSIT’s signal systems and traction power distribution system, as well as knowledge of train and power dispatching rules, techniques, and practices, are required.
Strong communication skills and proven success in managing staff is also required.
