The Community With a population of 4,094, the City of Cannon Falls is a growing, scenic riverside community located in Goodhue County in southeastern Minnesota. Strategically located on Highway 52 about 40 minutes from both Rochester and Minneapolis/St. Paul, Cannon Falls offers the advantages of small town living with access to urban amenities. The City is home to numerous recreational activities including canoeing/tubing/kayaking on the Cannon River, walking/biking/skating on the paved Cannon Valley Trail, and recreating at its over 30 acres of parks and recreational facilities. The Cannon Falls Commercial Historic District is the heart of the City. This four-block area comprises 22 historically significant structures with a variety of dining, shopping, and service amenities.
General Duties The Public Works Director performs challenging, advanced technical work overseeing the operations, planning, purchases, and staffing for the department and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the general direction of the City Administrator. Departmental supervision is exercised over all seven personnel within the department: Wastewater(2), Water(1), and Streets and Parks(4).
The City of Cannon Falls is looking for a strong leader who is willing to roll up their sleeves and work side by side with staff when necessary. The Director should have strong communication skills and should work effectively with the community.
Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED and extensive experience with water/wastewater operations, infrastructure maintenance, snow removal, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Special position requirements needed within one year of employment include a MN Class D (minimum) Water and Wastewater License and a valid commercial driver's license with Air Brakes endorsement.
