The McDonald Laboratory of Integrative Omics (IO) at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking a dynamic and highly motivated post-doctoral fellow. The ideal candidate will join a team focused on applying cutting-edge omics methods to unravel the etiology of complex traits.
Ongoing projects include analysis of data from the Million Veterans Program, National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) Trans-Omics Precision Medicine (TOPMed) program and the Alabama Genomics Health Initiative (AGHI). Traits currently being investigated include COPD, cachexia, sarcopenia, osteoarthritis and smoking behaviors such as menthol preference.
The fellow will work closely with Dr. McDonald applying cutting-edge analyses techniques to multi-omics data including whole-genome sequence, RNA-sequence and metabolomics data. The successful candidate will lead manuscript writing and present at meetings and conferences. The fellow will also engage with collaborators in epidemiology, genomics and medicine, providing statistical consultation and technical support. Additionally, all lab members are encouraged to initiate and develop their own genomic epidemiology related research projects utilizing existing resources.

The ideal applicant has a PhD in genetic epidemiology, biostatistics, bioinformatics or genetics and can program in R and at least one scripting language such as Python. Mastery of the English language including strong writing and public speaking skills is required.
