The Development Services Department (DSD) coordinates all private development reviews and inspections in cooperation with 12 other city departments and Travis County, all of which are involved in some aspect of the plan review and inspection process. Most new land development proposed in Austin must process an application with DSD from initial entitlement to detailed engineering plan approvals and final construction inspection. This “Gateway” for development in the City is critically important to both the quality and effective timely processing of new developments both large and small. DSD is staffed by specialists who focus on the myriad of city code regulations applicable to new development who have the expertise and capacity to process new development projects to assure conformance to Austin’s code, design standards, and environmental regulations.
The Land Use Review (LUR) Division is responsible for the review of development applications including zoning changes, site development permits, and subdivision applications for compliance with the City’s adopted code and criteria. This position will be responsible for the review of water quality controls, drainage analysis, construction review, and erosion hazard zone analysis. This position serves as Case Manager for Subdivision Construction Plan applications and assists in the coordination of staff review and approval process for other reviews. The job includes direct customer service with citizens, interested parties, developers, engineers, and other City of Austin departments.
Experience with drainage analysis and knowledge of water quality controls
Experience working with the City of Austin’s Land Development Code and Technical Criteria Manuals
Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills in writing, reviewing, and interpreting technical documents
Experience with GIS
Demonstrated customer service and interpersonal skills
The position will be filled at one of the following levels depending upon minimum qualifications:
Graduate Engineer B:
Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate engineering discipline with at least two (2) years of engineering experience
Licenses or Certifications: State of Texas Engineer-In-Training Certification
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job, plus four (4) years engineering experience acquired either before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer
Licenses or Certifications: State of Texas Professional Engineer License
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job, plus six (6)years engineering experience acquired either before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer
Licenses or Certifications: State of Texas Professional Engineer License at the time of hire
