JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to Chief Operating Officer for LMI Aerospace, this position will set the strategic direction and leadership for LMI Aerostructures Quality Management System. The Senior Director of Quality will be responsible for establishing and maintaining the LMI Quality System for Aerostructures and ensuring that it is followed and maintained at all facilities. This responsibility includes the Corporate Quality and Supplier Quality Department, as well as the Quality Managers at each manufacturing and design site to achieve world class supplier performance.
Responsibilities include the management of the strategic direction for quality, approvals for ISO9001/AS9100 and Customer Quality Systems, Nadcap Special Process approvals, and Customer interface and relationship management. As a member of the Operations Leadership Team, the position requires the development of a quality strategy focusing on a preventive action culture and increasing levels of quality performance through daily influence with the Corporate Team, Center of Excellence Leaders; Site General Managers, and Functional leaders. This role requires regular direct interface with internal and external customers and detailed planning and execution of strategy, goals and objectives to meet the overall business strategy and quality vision.
This individual will ensure that the quality organization is contributing to the long and short-term strategies of LMI. This person will at all times model LMI values and principles and act in a manner consistent with the LMI Code of Business Conduct and Ethics.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Collaborates with direct reports to establishing a common quality vision, culture, structure and management system within Aerostructures,
Promote and sustain quality as an element of superior business performance
Lead and instill a sense of urgency for product and process improvement to meet the customer requirements
Provide leadership to the Quality Directors and quality employees across the organization to build an effective team and processes that support a diverse mix of products, including SQA, that incorporates the innovative needs of the business.
Collaborates with team to establish reports and KPI’s to share with senior leaders and to put effective action plans in place as it relates to scrap, rework, performance on quality audit’s, etc.
Maintain close coordination through visits and personal contact with Centers of Excellence Leaders and Site General Managers.
Keeps current with knowledge of best practices and innovations in quality and inspection methods in the aerospace and similar industries.
Has ownership of the LMI Aerostructures Quality System Management Review (QSMR).
Develops close working relationship with customers and suppliers to assure quality performance is aligned with expectations.
Drive efforts to manage and improve supplier performance
Reviews and makes decisions based on performance data and status presentations to LMI executive management, customers and/or suppliers, as required
REQUIREMENTS
Strong familiarity with AS9100 quality system requirements and the practical application in production and support operations.
General knowledge of NADCAP requirements for special processes and the certification process.
Practical experience in aerospace manufacturing processes related to building sheet metal components, machined components and/or assemblies.
Experience with lean manufacturing tools and continuous improvement methods.
Demonstrated leadership and management skills are required.
The ability to manage a diverse staff while developing skills and abilities of subordinates, as well as providing training and development opportunities on an ongoing basis.
Ability to work in a high pace environment with multiple priorities.
Ability to work in a collaborative and participative, team oriented environment, working with customers (both internal and external), suppliers, all employees, and others in a professional manner. Models and reinforces appropriate LMI behavior as outlined in the LMI ethics and values statement.
Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and present general business and technical materials, specifically with respect to quality systems and processes

Must be able to prepare and present information to large and small groups, and to employees, management and the Facilitates team improvement activities spanning multiple processes, diverse cultural teams, and various geographical areas
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree in quality management, manufacturing, engineering, operations or other related degree is required.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 7 years progressive quality management experience in the aerospace industry with multi-site environment preferred. Experience in an aerostructures environment; machining, fabrication, processing, and/or assembly is highly preferred.
