Global Tools and Storage (GTS) is looking for a Sr. Manufacturing Engineer, Forging & Machining, to develop, evaluate and improve multiple assigned manufacturing processes. Utilizing your expertise, you will help deploy new process technology, product design, and materials while supporting production goals, quality and cost objectives.
FORGING and MACHINING Expert with working knowledge of Hot Forging, Warm Forging, and Cold Forging. Candidate should also specialize in machining and post processing of forgings.
Proven ability to manage procurement and implementation of multiple projects.
Provide New Product Design Engineer with Technical DFM (Design for Manufacturing) support to assure on-going part/product Quality at competitive Costs through:
Realistic 3-D features/geometries/structure to allow robust work holding & optimal cutting tool application
Practical 2-D drawing GD&T to allow robust work holding & in-process quality gaging inspection
Work with global advanced machine tool builders in developing/selecting optimal/economic machining equipment as well as designing robust work holding components at competitive cost (vs. Buy) with < 2-year financial payback
In addition, the candidate should have working knowledge in 1 or more of the following processes: Stamping, Belt Polishing, Grinding, and Turning
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Develop in-process dimension control functional gaging, metrology & CMM inspection setup to assure on-going Machining and forging features quality
Explore advanced machining technology (equipment, jig/fixture/work holding, cutting tools/material/feed/speed …etc.) to continue improving machining process cycle time & part quality.
Develop due diligent daily/weekly/quarterly/annually Total Preventive Maintenance (TPM) plan for machining equipment & jig/fixture/work-holding/cutting tools.
Train machining operators on due diligent in-process gaging/quality control, basic machining trouble-shooting, basic machinery TPM, and cutting tool diagnosis/control/change/offset management.
Assist Production leader in maintaining OEE – efficiency x quality x availability.
Assist in development of SMED concepts to reduce changeover downtime and increase OEE.
Using statistical analysis and manufacturing engineering techniques, troubleshoots manufacturing processes and develops ways to reduce variability in those processes.
Ensures product quality, process capabilities, and cost improvements.
Design tooling, gaging and fixturing required to support manufacturing.
Implements Process Controls and conducts statistical root cause analysis to identify ways to improve and maintain acceptable product quality.
Works closely with production and facilities maintenance to troubleshoot and repair problems with production equipment.
Develops and implements capital improvement projects to provide cost savings to the process.
Using lean manufacturing techniques and six sigma methodologies develops process improvements and optimal use of manufacturing resources
Works with suppliers to ensure incoming quality, and equipment vendors to develop the most efficient use of capital.
Works closely with the Supervisor, Team Lead and Design Engineering to support new product introduction and product upgrades or cost improvement initiatives.
Develops work instructions which direct the most efficient, cost effective and highest quality process
Reduces machine down-time by developing standard work instructions for predictive/preventative maintenance. Identifies the schedule, tools, and supplies needed for proper maintenance of capital equipment
Works closely with Finance and Materials to ensure correct manufacturing costs, process routings and bill of materials
Collaborate with Operations and HR teams to determine the key training needs to support business objectives and design programs that directly address those needs
Assures program backups and parameters are being maintained on an annual basis
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (BSME or BS in Mfg. Eng preferred)
A working knowledge of Forging (Hot, Warm, Cold)
A working knowledge of Machining Forgings
A working knowledge of Statistical Process Control
Hands on experience in lean manufacturing implementations, including analysis, design and implementation
Strong working knowledge of tool and die principles and associated manufacturing processes
Demonstrated ability to apply statistical methods (part/process qualifications and problem-solving activities
Proficient with ProE, or Solid Works, familiar with AutoCad and knowledgeable of geometric dimensioning & tolerance
Proficient with MS Word, Power Point and Excel
Excellent written/verbal skills required
