General/Short Version: Busy, well-established MEP firm seeks an efficient electrical or mechanical engineer to join our design team. The ideal candidate must be self-managed yet able to work well in a team setting; be comfortable in meetings and working with clients; and be able to handle multiple concurrent projects. This position is a responsible professional level engineering position. It includes all areas of mechanical and/or electrical design (HVAC, plumbing, lighting, power, etc.) from both a design and drafting standpoint. Familiarity with MEP AutoCAD and building codes is required. Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with FE is a must; PE is preferred. Summary: This is a responsible “Professional” level position. The person in this position incorporates design concepts from schematic design into design development and works with project team to produce construction documents. The Engineer in Training may work on several concurrent projects. The work may include all areas of mechanical and/or electrical design and the person may be recognized as an expert in one specialized area such as HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, communications, lighting, power, and/or construction coordination. This is a “Safety-Sensitive” position.

Performs basic to complex design duties and tasks
Solves engineering problems using experience, judgment and educations.
Inputs data in various mechanical and electrical computer programs.
Researches and selects equipment from catalogs
Becomes proficient in the use of a computer for design and Auto CAD applications.
Prepares the drawings of designs he/she has originated or from sketches provided by others.
Marks plans for less experienced technicians
Provides backup to other project teams as needed, while involved in primary projects.
Maintains neat and organized work area which allows efficient access to project information required by other team members.
Trains or provides assistance to less experienced technicians to help resolve difficult operating tasks or drawing production problems.
Communicates with clients, contractors, subcontractors, as needed.
Visits worksites, and verifies information on an as needed basis.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Serves on the Peer Review team to assist in quality of design, drafting and/or submittals.

Education &/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
Four years of experience required, but PE in at least one state preferred.
Must have an understanding and knowledge of applicable codes.
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos.
Ability to write basic correspondence and training models.
Ability to communicate basic information to customers in a professional, positive, friendly and understandable manner.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to vendors, clients, management, and other employees of Company. Fluent in written and verbal English.
Ability to use complex mathematical formulas while preparing designs.
Ability to work with little or no supervision.
Ability to use diplomacy and tact when dealing with people and problems.
Ability to identify problems and determine the best course of action for their resolution.
Ability to critically evaluate information for accuracy and usefulness in solving problems.
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Computer Skills and Abilities:
Technical skills including familiarity with the use of computers and peripherals; knowledge of the use of operating systems at the user level; familiarity with word processing and spreadsheet applications.
Demonstrable familiarity with computing culture and marketplace, and aptitude or experience in abstract and practical problem solving.
Ability to use PC's for personal productivity and to design and carry out experiments involving computers and communication equipment.
Experience developing database or other applications helpful.
Technically self-reliant, able to perform advanced problem-solving, self-directed study, and experimental setup and testing without supervision.
Must be able to travel when work requires travel.
PE license required within 1 year of employment

Relaxed dress code. Time in excess of 40 hours in a week may be required. May experience stress from interruptions and from continually dealing with the public.
