Within the Transportation Division of the Department of Public Works, the Associate Civil Engineer will manage the completion of transportation projects and studies, review traffic impact studies, coordinate with TAM regarding the development and implementation of the regional transportation model, and assist in the preparation of transportation planning grants. The Associate Engineer will be a lead Transportation contact person for the review of Public Works Land Development requests, Community Development planning studies and represent the Marin County Public Works on Safe Routes to School advisory committees. The Associate Civil Engineer will serve as a working supervisor to one to two employees or be the project leader on assignments requiring considerable professional knowledge of transportation planning and engineering principles and regulations, including CEQA/NEPA, Highway Capacity Manual, California Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (CA MUTCD), Caltrans Traffic Manual, the California Vehicle Code and AASHTO’s Policy on Geometric Design of Highways and Streets. Assignments may include reviewing complex plans requiring highly technical engineering analyses.
Our highly qualified candidate is technically knowledgeable and experienced in the principles and practices of traffic engineering and transportation planning and will have a Traffic Engineer license to assist with review and approval of traffic impact studies, transportation planning studies and improvement plans. They will be an effective communicator, both orally and in writing, and be able to represent the County in meetings and presentations to various groups, including community groups, Safe Routes to School advisory committees, Planning Commission, Board of Supervisors, regulatory and other governmental agencies, and the general public. The candidate is customer-focused and interpersonally effective in dealing with staff, other county departments, engineers, consultants and the public. They will have experience in coordinating with other public agencies, such as Caltrans, Transportation Authority of Marin, Marin Transit and/or the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The candidate is able to analyze and evaluate alternatives, make sound recommendations and prepare effective technical staff reports. They will also be accountable and able to schedule and carry through assignments with independence and thrive in a team environment that encourages cooperation, communication and mutual sharing of risk, responsibility and reward.

Registration as a Traffic Engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration is highly desired.
