The Quality Engineer is primarily responsible for supporting and maintaining our Quality Management System. This is a key position in Simsbury, CT.
Act as a focal point for quality within the group and as a technical liaison with our suppliers and our customers for all matters relating to quality of purchased and produced goods
Interface with suppliers, internal parties and customers to resolve quality issues, complete comprehensive corrective actions and drive quality improvement
Inspect and record product conformance to specifications through inspection of raw material, works in process and finished goods inventory
Develop / improve tools for key metric collection
Provide comprehensive metric and technical reporting to company management on supplier, and internal quality performance, report and track any significant non-conformances from quality standards, and provide recommendations for improvement and corrective action.
Visit customer and supplier sites to gather feedback on current level of customer quality perception
Participate in new supplier development and first article review per AS9102
Visit material and component suppliers to review quality concerns and issues in an effort to minimize inspection requirements at the corporation's business unit
Establish and present regular training for inspection and manufacturing employees on quality issues
Develop programs to encourage each employee to perform quality control as a part of their operation
Complete quality surveys received from current or potential customers.
Perform regular internal and supplier audits to ensure compliance with Microsemi and regulatory standards
Support and maintain ISO9001 compliant QMS through continual improvement.
Regularly interact with engineering groups, manufacturing, supply chain, sales, and customers
Establish and maintain effective communication and work relationships within the department, the group, the Corporation and the community; and maintain the professional competence, knowledge and skill necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities.
Utilize engineering skills, quick learning, and self-motivation to succeed in a fast-paced environment

B.S. in Materials Science or B.S.M.E. required
Minimum 8 years of experience as a Quality Engineer (electronics industry preferred)
ASQ - Certified Quality Engineer preferred
Ability to work with minimal supervision
Hands-on experience with electronics manufacturing, materials, and processing
Understanding of materials science concepts from both a theoretical perspective and practical work-place applications
Experience with military and industry standards: MIL-STD-883, MIL-PRF-19500, MIL-PRF-38534, ISO9001, AS9100, AS9102, IPC J-STD-001
Proficiency in other Quality related tools and systems - SPC, six sigma, 8D, DOE, root cause analysis, FMEA, PPAP, FAI
Proficiency in Microsoft Office for detailed metric and technical reports / presentations
Proven experience developing and utilizing metrics and analytics to analyze and resolve quality issues
Demonstrated experience training quality inspectors in the use of inspection tools and processes.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Strong oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with clients, vendors, and individuals of all levels
Must have ability to travel to supplier and customer sites.
This position requires travel of 0-10%.
