The Assistant Superintendent Light Rail Vehicle Maintenance is responsible for managing the LRV maintenance activities. Typical duties include: timely and reliable maintenance, preventative maintenance inspections and servicing LRVs and equipment, preparing and administering related budgets, developing and implementing maintenance and operating policies and procedures, managing staff and resources, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
Vocational training in electrical or electronic technology, and seven (7) years of experience related to heavy or light rail vehicle maintenance, including two (2) years of supervisory experience or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties.
Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon the results of a background check.
Licenses and Certifications: Valid Arizona Driver's License and the ability to maintain insurability under METRO's Vehicle Insurance Policy.

Supervises a staff of a 24 hours/7 day operation; responds to emergency calls 24 hours a day, 7 days per week.
Supervises employees to include prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; and making hiring, termination and disciplinary recommendations.
Plans, supervises, and coordinates the maintenance, inspections and repair of light rail vehicles and equipment.
Develops inspection and preventive maintenance programs for LRV maintenance.
Supervises the work and work product of consultants and/or related project contractors ensuring quality work products and timelines are met.
Administers safety training; ensures staff follows safety procedures and that public safety and security procedures are followed.
Resolves complex problems and oversees the repair of light rail vehicles and equipment ensuring quality and conformance to specifications.
Assists with developing inspection and preventive maintenance policies and procedures to achieve a safe, reliable, clean and efficient system.
Serves as a liaison with internal departments, public agencies, external organizations, the general public, and/or other interested parties.
Assists in departmental budget; monitors and forecasts expenditures; recommends purchases of equipment; solicits and evaluates bids.
Performs other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Physical Demands: Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and seeing.
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Work Environment: Work in shop or outdoors in all weather conditions. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, chemicals, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions and/or intense noise levels.
